Finding a Sustainable Nonprofit Model with SheJumps

SheJumps is a volunteer driven organization based in Salt Lake City that works to increase the participation of women and girls in outdoor activities. Claire Smallwood, Executive Director of SheJumps writes, “We offer free and low-cost outdoor education programs for women and girls of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities. Our main focus is a free day camp for young girls to learn outdoor adventure skills called Wild Skills.”

The organization implements programs across 14 states with just one part-time Executive Director and 43 volunteers. The SheJump’s mascot, the Girafficorn, represents both having one’s feet on the ground and head above the clouds. This organization’s ability to run meaningful programming with limited resources is doing just that.

Earlier this year, the SheJumps team climbed Mount Rainier and raised more than $20,000 in support of its Wild Skills youth program. This fall, their primary focus remains on building relationships and raising funds to expand their programs.

Smallwood explains, “SheJumps is in dire need of funding to survive, so we are in the strategic planning process! Additionally, our goal is for all of our programs to have a one-for-one model, sharing the word about our Wild Skills program and getting involved at the local level for these events will help SheJumps reach our goals!”

Our team at Keela seconds that! We’re honoured to be a part of SheJump’s journey and we can’t wait to see what’s next.

So, how can you help?

As SheJumps becomes more and more involved with local communities across the US, you can become part of the movement by supporting SheJumps initiatives near you!
